these are a few trends for this spring season that didn’t get an individual post but are worthy of recognition.
As the weather gets warmer and we are ready to shed our winter layers, one of the first summertime activities is to head to the beach. Weather you’ve packed on or slimmed down for the upcoming season finding the perfect swimsuit is essential. The seven body types being covered are as followed.
The Inverted Triangle- Ladies with this shape have wider shoulders and a thinner waist and and hips. This is more of an athletic build and women with muscular arms. The ideal swimsuit for you would be something that is strapless or thin halter straps or bandeau tops, with a classic bikini bottom to lengthen the leg and even out your proportions.
The Lean Column- Also known as the banana shape and the tube shape, is for the smaller framed women with straight up and down bodies. This is a universal shape and can wear just about any bikini or a monokini. But to add more of a shape you can buy swim wear with ruffles or boy short bottoms or prints that can define your shape.
The Rectangle Shape- The most common body shape and is classified by having a balanced bust and hip size but the waist isn’t very defined, but tend to have nicely shaped legs. Padded push-up bikini/ tankini tops that are bright in color or a one piece with a bold pattern or cut outs.
The Apple- Women with an apple shape usually have bigger busts with a heavier midsection with thinner legs. Most women wear tankini or one piece suits with a dark top and lighter bottom for contrast. Many women with the apple shape can pull off the retro high waisted swimsuits that are making a comeback this season.
The Pear Shape- The pear shape is for women who have a heavier bottom and hips, small waist and small bust. A swimsuit for this shape would be a bikini with strings on the side or an asymmetrical skirt for the bottoms. Using color blocking, brighter colors or prints at the top and darker bottoms is suggested. Or subtle prints like polka dots and stripes.
The Hourglass- The hourglass shape is what is typically ideal because it can be dressed in most styles. The misconception of having an hourglass is that you have to be a voluptuous woman. When it is simply your breast measurements are roughly the same size as your hips and a waist line that is much slimmer. As I previously stated this shape is universal, you can wear any of the swimsuits mentioned above and more. The only suggestion is not to hide your shape.
The peplum isn’t a new trend but more of a comeback. The peplum detail is actually from the 1940’s then revamped in the 1980’s and has found its way back again in this decade. When the peplum first started it was to accentuate the female body by making the waist appear slimmer and the hips wider, all around emphasizing the female curves. It started with novelist Nancy Mitford when she wrote about it in her book, Have You Heard About The New Look?, “you pad the hip and girdle the waist”. In 1947 when Christian Dior launched “New Look” series for women, it re-set women’s “X”, or hourglass, contour style.
When Peplums reappeared in the 1980’s it was more attached to party dresses and the detail was as big as the skirt. They added something extra to the already extravagant dresses from that time. Peplums were seen everywhere from department store windows to shows like Dynasty.
In the first part there was plenty of references on the different types of peplums worn today, but sometimes it’s difficult to find the right color or just the right length for you. Below is a video to add a peplum to a skirt or dress as a belt and here is a tutorial if you are good at sewing and want to have the peplum attached to the dress.

Judy Garland performed at Carnegie Hall back in 1961 and today The Girl Next Door would like to honor her, not only for her amazing voice and acting skills but also her undeniable style. On that night which was considered the greatest night in showbiz history, Ms. Garland as met by a standing ovation of peers and didn’t let down when she performed 27 numbers onstage. Stated by History.com
Judy Garland’s performance on this night in 1961 was captured on a live recording that would go on to spend 95 weeks on the U.S. album charts (including 13 weeks at #1) and sweep the 1962 Grammys. But the experience of seeing it live was clearly something else entirely. “She’ll be back in May,” wrote Frank Aston for the New York World-Telegram. “Try to get tickets. Just try. This kid is still a killer.”
Described as one of the greatest talents in Hollywood at her time, Garland was an all around performer. Winning three Oscars for her performance in The Wizard of Oz as well as the Grammys.
Mrs. Garland was an old Hollywood icon that will forever be remembered for her roles in classic films like Meet Me In St. Louis, A Star Is Born ans The Wizard Of Oz. She was signed to MGM at the young age of 13 and considered the original girl next door with her innocent looks and standing 4 ft. 11 in.
After leaving MGM and being married several times her career seemed weary until she got her break in the film adaptation of Annie Get Your Gun as Annie Oakley. Nervous about playing an unglamorous role and departing from her teen roles she was mistreated by the director. She went on to have many more starring and captivating roles. But the bad outweighed the good as the end of her life was nearing. Unable to maintain her bills and shows, Garland went to Broadway and making guest appearances. And found out she had acute hepatitis. She was told she would only have a few more years to live but wasn’t defeated but felt a weight was lifted, according to her biography, because for the first time the pressure was off of her.
For all her accomplishments and today being one of her biggest she will always be remembered and adored.

Two of the most standout shoes in recent years are the heelless heels and the wedge sneaker shoes.
The heelless heels have been seen in many runways from Alexander McQueen and Jeffrey Campbell. The shoes can have different features such as spikes, prints, glitter and ankle straps. The unique design came from the mind of Andre Perugia in 1937 who was known as one of the first major shoe designers of his time for having a different aesthetic for women’s shoes. But the shoes have been remade in modern times and were seen on Lady Gaga in 2009 in a Vogue issue, designed by Noritaka Tatehana. They have been seen on red carpets as well as in editorial photo shoot.
The wedge sneaker was originated in the 90’s and were most noticeable on pop British group the Spice Girls. In more recent times the shoes have been remade by designer Isabel Marant. The shoes can be bought in just about any retail store across the nation. Some dress up the sneakers with a flowing high low skirt and fitted top or dress down the wedges with leggings and a tank. Either way the versatile shoes are great for several looks.
